[...] Blogging With Kids by Angela Kulikowski was a personal and interesting read about a teachers struggle to involve her class in online blogging. She was under the impression that the children would be interested and responsive to the idea but was set back and demotivated when their response was less than interested.
Hi!
I was so happy to come across your blog because I am also a teacher interested in using technology in the classroom. I am a first-year composition instructor at Iowa State University working on my dissertation and I would really appreciate a chance to swap correspondence back and forth about your work. I also have an edublog and I can't wait to start using it with my students this fall! Please visit at: http://mleasum.edublogs.org/. Thanks for your time!

Well starting with a class blog will definitely allow you to make it more manageable and then you can see how you go.

Thanks Sue. That post was quite helpful. I am thinking of leaning that way. I am excited to have the kids get started, but don't want to jump in too quickly and have things get either out of control or too hard (and time consuming) to manage.

Hi Angela, You might like to check out tilgunas response to how they are managing students being administrators as it may give you some ideas. I know other teachers who has started first with class blog and gradually increased students roles on the class blog. As students showed they were up to the responsibility they were gradually given their own blog.

Sorry for the late response. The book blog isn't mine, just one I found and added to my blogroll for my kids to use. Sorry I can't help with that. But, I am guessing that they made Pages for each genre, then made the drop down menu hold each page name.

For my own class, they don't have accounts yet. I was just getting started last school year, and this year I want them to earn their accounts and increased rights as they show responsibility. I guess we'll see how it goes!

Good luck

I have been admiring your class' book blog and am trying to set one up for my class. I have a couple of questions if you don't mind helping me. First, how did you make the homepage? I created a page with a welcome and directions but I can't seem to make it link as the homepage. Also, do each of your students have their own user name? How do you work that with the password and administration details? I am trying to figure this out because other teachers on my grade level want to try it out and right now it is like the blind leading the blind! Thanks for your help!

To do this project, I chose a book and we used the story written there. Next year, I'm going to do that first with my class and then we will write our own story for the second project.

I will make my next blog post (hopefully tomorrow) about the steps I took to make this project happen.

Thanks for the feedback Becca!
